It's interesting all of the little things you forget at a parent ..and only after reading an old email or look at pictures and videos do you remember those little things that happened as a parent and how it seemed so important and all consuming at the time. I realized that I had totally forgotten that stage we went through and the difficulties we had getting our little boy to eat meat!
When I think about it I remember now how worried I was ..the fear of his much needed protein consumption being too low ..whether it was from meat or anything else it was certainly low because aside from starchy foods he wasn't even eating cheese. I remember now my husband the meat lover that he is being really really worried about his sons non protein existent diet -more so than Moms constant worries about him getting enough fruits and veggies- worry worry worry yes, lots of worries were goin on those days.
As I think about it I know that I did not have a method per se that I used, but I do remember having a few Aha! moments the one that mostly sticks into my mind was when I started offering my little boy very thinly sliced deli meats ..it just kind of occurred to me that my little guy had no back teeth and a super thinly sliced turkey breast just kind of melts in your mouth ..and it's flavour is not overpowering either. I remember it took a bit for him to eat it but when he did I gradually offered different varieties of meats, ham, turkey, roast beef ..and it just sorta opened the flood gates and I was able to offer some sausage and hamburger and then actual chunks of meat like pork chop or roast and he became comfortable with [slowly] chewing away at it.
I remember my friends little girl who was a half a year younger than my little guy and had even less teeth than him yet she would happily gnaw away at chunks of meat ...and I remember being puzzled at the fact that my son refused to! Ahhh the memories are all flooding in now ..
