A GREEK TASTE TRIAL

My little boy has been given a tremendous opportunity to go to Greece! Thanks to the generosity of his Papous & Yiayia who lovingly gave us a no-opt-out by buying three airplane tickets [I am not looking forward to traveling+time difference adjustments with my strong willed tornado little Boy] ..nonetheless we are still incredibly thankful and hopefully praying for the best!

We have only two weeks to eat and see as much as we can! *and* Coming Soon ..I will compose and share how some of the <Greek Taste Trials> went with my little boy and share here with  You! I am excited to have created a little list of some of the memories of the special Greek foods that I look forward to offering to my little boy ..and I am also reminding myself to have no expectations ..I was an adventurous eater as a child and some of my fondest memories are associated with food, but I know my little boy is the opposite of adventurous with food so whether or not he takes some tastes I am constantly reminding myself that the memory of it all will still be just as beautiful.

As a young girl I was Blessed with the opportunity to go to Greece with my Greek Father ..and among the memories of those times many of the opportunities of the tastes that I experienced have been burned in my [taste] memory :
...the first time I tasted fresh Sea Urchin - while jumping in the deep pristine waters of the steep rocky cliffs that my Father preferred to the sandy beaches for swimming  ..he would dive in and bring up a few black, creepy Sea Urchins that I so feared while swimming ..and cracked it open for a taste of its inner sweet salty meat as he shared with me that he would snack on these as a boy
...I remember my surprise at a plate of cooked Snails at a Taverna sharing a meal with my Aunt as she explained to me that they were to be eaten! ..and curiously eating the snails and enjoying them!
...I remember being in the village of Kastania at a huge table of friends and family and being encouraged to have a taste of a forkful of a strange whitish object by a few of the Greek Mama's and receiving loud praise as I ate what only after I was told was Lamb Brain which I remember thinking tasted good ..not amazing but good ..I remember much preferring Kokoretsi a beautiful tasting roasted dish of wrapped Lamb Intestines
... I loved green vegetables ..and always found a plate of lemony Xorta [cooked wild greens] completely satisfying ..I have huge doubts my little boy will be taking a taste of this one!
...I remember being served a huge Octopus while visiting family in Samos at a Seaside restaurant that placed the whole Octopus in the middle of a dish with its tentacles spread out and we would chop and eat our way up the tentacles ..I fell in LoVe with Octopus! and I still adore it ...
... and my all time favourite memory ..Tiropita [cheese pastry] with a cold can of Orange Greek Fanta [completely different from North American Fanta] that I would instantly devour at the beach and longingly wait and dream for the next time I was lucky enough to have my Father buy them for me!

These are some of the tastes I am planning to offer my boy [and husband] ..and Grandpa is ready to do some Urchin diving for his Grandson during one of our afternoon swims.

It is an amazing feeling to offer your children some of the experiences that you remember loving as a child ..I suppose regardless if they enjoy it as much as you :)
